Teenager struck by vehicle is hospitalized
A 13-year-old male was critically injured when he was hit by a vehicle while skateboarding Thursday afternoon on Salt Lake Boulevard near Maluna Street.
The Emergency Medical Services Division reported the boy was taken in critical condition to a hospital. The crash was reported at about 4:30 p.m.
The eastbound lanes were closed from Pakini Street; police reopened Salt Lake Boulevard at about 6:50 p.m.
No further information was immediately available.
2 men accused of stealing copper wiring
Two men were charged with stealing copper wire in the Nimitz Highway area.
Michael Akau, 34, and Shawn Ogasawara, 36, were charged Wednesday evening with theft. Akau’s bail was set at $50,000, and Ogasawara’s at $15,000. Police said the two men have no local address.
The alleged theft took place at about 11:54 p.m. Monday.
Honolulu police said patrol officers were sent to the Nimitz area after receiving a "suspicious circumstance-type case." Upon arrival, officers observed two men attempting to steal copper wiring and arrested them.
