Woman who died at Oheo Gulch pools is identified
Maui police have identified a 54-year-old Texas woman who died on Thursday after falling from a narrow ledge above Oheo Gulch pools in Kipahulu as Cheryl Black.
Cause of death is unknown pending autopsy results.
Maui firefighters, responding to the 5:31 p.m. alarm from the area commonly referred to as Seven Sacred Pools, found the woman unconscious, lying halfway in the water at the lower pool at Oheo Gulch, makai of Hana Highway.
The woman was trying to get from one pool to another when she fell 15 feet.
Bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The fire helicopter airlifted the woman to a landing zone to nearby campgrounds. Medical personnel tried to resuscitate her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
