Police are investigating a report of an attempted kidnapping of an elementary school student Tuesday morning in Kailua.

Police said a 9-year-old boy was walking to Kainalu Elementary School on Kaiholu Street at about 7:30 a.m. when two men in a white van approached him and tried to get him into the vehicle.

The student fled and told authorities.

Last year, police investigated an attempted kidnapping last year that also involved a white van.

The state Department of Education said a white van drove up to a group of students on Keaunui Drive near Keoneula Elementary School in Ewa Beach after school on Sept. 18. A male in the passenger seat asked the Keoneula Elementary School students to get in the van. The students ran away from the van and the van drove off in the opposite direction.
