UH basketball 2014-15 schedule released
The Hawaii men’s basketball team released its 2014-15 schedule on Tuesday, featuring 19 home games and highlighted by a nonconference contest against Pittsburgh at Maui’s War Memorial Gym on Nov. 21.
UH again opens the season in the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic, this time against Cal State Bakersfield on Nov. 14.
In Big West play, the Rainbow Warriors get four of their first five at home, starting with defending conference tournament champion Cal Poly on Jan. 7. After those five games, the ‘Bows play four straight on the road.
Some of the biggest names on the nonconference schedule take place off of Oahu. Besides the Pitt game — a matchup against former UH assistant Jamie Dixon, now the Panthers’ head coach — Gib Arnold’s team will play BYU in Salt Lake City on Dec. 6 and Washington State in Seattle on Dec. 13.
UH will play its marquee home games in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic Dec. 22, 23 and 25. First-round pairings haven’t been announced for the eight-team tournament.
UH will play Chaminade Dec. 19 at the Neal Blaisdell Arena, the former home of the ‘Bows. It will be UH’s first game there since it began play in the Stan Sheriff Center in 1994.

Combined with a home meeting against Hawaii Pacific on Nov. 26, it is the second straight year UH will play two non-Division I opponents in a season.
Other nonconference opponents are Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Nov. 15); High Point (Nov. 17); Delaware State (Dec. 2); Southern (Dec. 29); and Florida Gulf Coast (Jan. 3).
The Big West tournament is again at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., and starts March 12.
UH went 20-11 last season, including 9-7 in the Big West for fourth place.
