Hammer attack brings charges
A 53-year-old Kahului man was charged Tuesday after allegedly assaulting a man who was in bed with his ex-girlfriend at her Kahului home, police said.
Police said Lomae Lomae walked into the woman’s home at 1:45 a.m. Friday, without her knowledge, with a hammer. Lomae went to her bedroom and found his ex-girlfriend with another man, police said.
He then allegedly struck the man in the head with the hammer, police said.
The victim was taken in critical condition to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Prosecutors charged Lomae with first-degree assault and first-degree burglary. His bail was set at $15,000.
Human remains to be autopsied
Hawaii County has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death and the identity of human remains found in South Kohala on Monday.
The remains were discovered at 5:30 p.m. on vacant land between Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Puako Beach Drive.
Building staff douses blaze
Maui fire and police investigators are looking into what may have been an intentionally set fire that caused $300 in damage to the Hawaii Job Corps building in Makawao on Tuesday.
The fire started in the storage area of the building at 500 Ike Drive. When it was discovered just after 11 a.m., Job Corps staff extinguished the blaze before firefighters arrived. About 50 people had to be evacuated.
No injuries were reported.
