It’s been 25 years since a castle opened on the Las Vegas Strip. Last week a second castle finally opened, but it’s not a megaresort like Excalibur. The first White Castle hamburger outlet to open in a western location is now serving its famous "sliders" 24/7 at center Strip. Crowds have been heavy to sample the 2-by-2-inch burgers that come with mustard, ketchup, chopped fried onions and pickles and are often ordered by the sack. If the lines are long, you can chill out with one of the other top deals in Las Vegas: Casino Royale’s $1 Michelob in the bottle, also served 24/7.
Dollar blackjack: Binion’s downtown is running "Thursday Throwback Blackjack." It features $1-minimum blackjack dealt on Thursdays only from noon to midnight. You can also play $1 blackjack daily at the Riviera and the Poker Palace.
Penny slots: The South Point is running a promotion called "Penny Perks" in February, awarding $1 million in bonuses to penny-slot players during the month. If you play the penny machines there, be sure to have your players club card inserted.
WSOP 2015: Details have been released for the 2015 World Series of Poker, which will kick off May 27 at the Rio, with this year’s main event running July 5-14.
A new event, dubbed "The Colossus," will have a guaranteed prize pool of at least $5 million. Its $565 entry fee will be the lowest for an open WSOP event in 35 years and is expected to draw a field of more than 13,000 players.
QUESTION: I need my annual Super Bowl national anthem fix. What is the betting line on this year’s time?
ANSWER: The time it takes to sing the national anthem has become a Super Bowl proposition-bet fixture. This year’s line on the length of time it will take Idina Menzel to sing the anthem is 2:01. You can’t make the bet at a Las Vegas sports book; it’s put up in offshore books only.
