Tatupu-Leopoldo, Eteuati honored for ‘D’
Brigham Young-Hawaii senior Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo was named women’s PacWest Defensive Player of the Week after turning in a stellar effort against Chaminade.
The guard from Farrington High posted 33 points, seven rebounds and six steals in the double-overtime win.
» Frankie Eteuati, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., racked up eight points and three blocks in both of Chaminade’s games last week and was named men’s PacWest Defensive Player of the Week.
The forward also pulled down eight rebounds in a win over Hawaii Pacific.
Chaminade swept by Simon Fraser
The Chaminade softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader, 4-3 (10 innings) and 10-0 (five innings), to Simon Fraser at Central Oahu Regional Park on Monday night.
Shannan Hokama went 3-for-5 for the ‘Swords in the first game, while Nicole Erichsen and Amber Manuel both went 2-for-2 in the second contest for Chaminade.
Kamehameha cheerleaders win title
The Kamehameha Schools varsity cheer team added a national title to its collection, and didn’t have to go far to celebrate at Walt Disney World.
The Warriors won the 2015 Universal Cheerleaders Association Game Day National Championship in the medium division at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday evening.
Under the direction of coach Melissa Wennihan, the Warriors’ 14-member squad repeated as champions after claiming gold in the small division last year.
Kamehameha has excelled at both the national and state levels since cheerleading was sanctioned by the HHSAA in 2001. Since the inception of the state championship competition, the Warriors have won seven large-division championships (2003-05, 2007-10) and two medium-division titles (2001-02).
