With Big West play starting up in less than a week, two of Hawaii’s top pitchers coming back from injury look ready to roll.
Junior Jarrett Arakawa and freshman Quintin Torres-Costa dazzled on the mound Saturday night, giving Hawaii a chance a to pull out a 3-2 win in 11 innings at Les Murakami Stadium.
Juliene Jones scored Jordan Richartz on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th to send a crowd of 2,462 home happy.
Hawaii (11-12) won in its last at-bat for the second time in the series against the Blazers (17-7) and got its first win in three extra-innings game this year.

"We finally pulled through and played the whole game and we’ve got ourselves two ‘W’s," Richartz said. "Jarrett toughed it out and squeaked out (eight) innings for us and it’s good to see Q come out. They’re going to help us win."
Arakawa topped the 100-pitch mark for the first time since coming back from shoulder injury. He went a season-high eight innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Torres-Costa (2-0), who was shaky in his first outing last week since having Tommy John surgery, dominated UAB over the final three innings, allowing one walk and no hits with four strikeouts.
"I got my feet wet that first game and looking back I knew what I did wrong and made sure not to do it again," Torres-Costa said. "Our team is rallying behind the two Tommy John guys because (Andrew) Jones got the win (on Friday) and now me. I guess it’s a thing now."
Hawaii escaped with the win despite a couple of key errors during the game.
UAB scored its first run in the third inning when Hawaii shortstop Austin Wobrock made a diving stop of a ball hit back up the middle by Adam Smith. Instead of holding it and keeping Mitch Williams at third, Wobrock tried to make the out at first and instead threw wide, allowing Williams to cross for the first run.
Wobrock was thrown out in the fourth inning trying to advance to second on a walk. UAB starter Johnny Lieske threw one of his two wild pitches that allowed Trevor Podratz to score after a leadoff double. Wobrock slowed as he jogged into first base and then took off for second, but was easily thrown out.
"Austin was trying to do too much but the thing with Austin is he can do a lot," Hawaii coach Mike Trapasso said. "We’ve seen him actually make that throw in practice but he knows better than to even attempt that in games."
Podratz tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh with his second double of the game, scoring Adam Hurley who drew a lead off walk from reliever Thomas Lowery.
Wobrock laid down a bunt to move Podratz at third, but the UH catcher decided to stay at second, resulting in an easy out at first.
Marcus Doi pinch-hit for Kalei Hanawahine and grounded out to third on a ball that may have gotten through had UAB moved its infield in.
Arakawa, who was sitting at 91 pitches through seven, came back in the eighth and let up a single to Chase Davis. He battled back to get a key strikeout of designated hitter Ryan Prinzing before getting Griffin Gun to hit into a fielder’s choice.
"Actually, I didn’t feel great to start but I felt the best in that seventh inning which is what convinced myself to come back in the eighth," Arakawa said. "Anytime you let the leadoff guy on you kind of need to get one yourself is usually my mentality so I had to bear down and make some pitches."
Torres-Costa retired the first six he faced, punctuating the top of the ninth with back-to-back strikeouts of Nathan Vincent and Williams.
Ivan De Jesus drew a leadoff walk and Prinzing bunted him over, but Torres-Costa got out of it striking out Gun looking and getting Jeff Schalk to pop to short.
"That shows what we’re capable of doing with Quintin healthy," Trapasso said. "That was a big boost to our kids to see Quintin do that."
Torres-Costa threw 25 of his 35 pitches for strikes and said he wasn’t going to come out for the 12th if Hawaii hadn’t scored.
"I was on a pitch count," Torres-Costa said. "I had no pain, no troubles, and now I’ve got to keep getting better and exercise more to make sure I don’t get injured again."
Turner Lee (1-1) took the loss for UAB, allowing three hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Hawaii got just one hit off Lieske, who struck out a career-high eight in six innings.
