Man charged with hitting another man twice with SUV
A 52-year-old Hilo man has been arrested and charged with nine offenses after he allegedly hit another man twice with a sports utility vehicle.
Police said Clifford P. Marler had been in a discussion with a 49-year-old Hilo man in the parking lot of a commercial and residential complex on Hualani Street at about 7 p.m. on Feb. 2.
Marler allegedly ran into the victim twice with an SUV that didn’t belong to him and fled the scene.
The victim was seriously hurt and transfered to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu until his release on Feb. 25, police said.
Police located and arrested Marler Tuesday on outstanding warrants. Arresting officers said they found a syringe containing what is believed to be heroin during the arrest.
Martier was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangering, leaving the scene of an accident involving substantial bodily injury, failure to render aid, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $76,000.
