Denver and JFK rank low in access

The dubious distinction of least accessible airport in the world falls on Denver International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to a ranking of the world’s 30 busiest airports by the Global Gateway Alliance, a nonprofit New York advocacy group promoting improved public access.

Those airports scored only 30 out of 100 points on an accessibility scale that looked at travel time, travel costs, availability of public transit and number of transfers needed to get to the airports.

The Madrid-Barajas Airport in Spain took the top ranking, with travel time of 16 minutes from the nearest downtown district or transit hub, direct access by rail and travel costs under $2.50, according to the ranking.

Both Denver and JFK scored a travel time of more than 47 minutes, with travel costs higher than $11 and no direct rail line from the nearest downtown district or transit hub, the study found.

FEW LAND IN MILE-HIGH CLUB

If you’re a member of the mile-high club, you are among very few Americans who say they have been intimate with a partner on an airborne plane.

If you haven’t, it is most likely because you think airplane bathrooms are too small or too disgusting.

Those are among the findings of an online survey of more than 2,000 adults in the U.S.

The survey conducted by Switchfly, a technology company that powers travel booking and loyalty redemption systems, reported that 4 percent of Americans said they have had sex on a plane. Another 25 percent said they are willing but haven’t had the opportunity. Among other findings:

» Fifty-six percent say they don’t want to join the mile-high club. Of those who don’t want to join, 25 percent say it’s because airplane bathrooms are too small; 25 percent say the bathrooms are too gross.

» Men are three times more likely than women to be members.

» Women between the ages of 45 and 54 are more likely than any other female age bracket to belong.

» Men between the ages of 35 and 44 are more likely than any other male age bracket to be members.

» Fifteen percent say they don’t know what the mile-high club is.
