Senior opposite Brook Sedore put down a match-high 18 kills and No. 7 Hawaii survived against No. 14 CSUN, pulling out a 25-21, 25-12, 28-30, 30-28 victory Friday night in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Sedore reached two milestones during the match. His ninth kill ended Set 2, giving him 900 for his career, and his six aces gave him 102, putting at No. 5  among the program’s top 10 all-time servers.

Senior hitter Scott Hartley added a career-high 14 kills and had his first career double-double when coming up with 11 digs. Senior middle Taylor Averill added 11 kills and was in on nine of the Warriors’ 14.5 blocks including teaming with Sedore to stuff Sam Holt to end the marathon after 2 hours and 26 minutes. 

Hawaii, winning its third straight, improved to 10-3 overall, 7-2 in MPSF. Junior libero Kolby Kanetake had a career-high 21 digs. 

 CSUN (5-9, 3-7) got 13 kills from Holt. 

Hawaii had five chances at ending the match in three, the last at 28-27 on Averill’s 10th kill. The Matadors scored three straight, getting two kills by Holt and one by Josiah Byers to force a fourth. 

The teams meet again Sunday at 5 p.m.
