Strong quake off Aleutian Islands poses no threat to Hawaii
An earthquake of preliminary magnitude 6.6 struck near the Aleutian Islands Monday evening, but poses no tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The temblor struck at 5:15 p.m. Hawaii time, 32 miles east of Buldir Island, Alaska at a depth of 21.7 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
No injuries were immediately reported.
