Sea Warriors upset Lancers in 11
Pinch hitter Kevin Lenik homered to left to open the 11th inning and Hawaii Pacific outlasted No. 8 Cal Baptist 6-5 on Monday at Hans L’Orange Park.
The opener of the scheduled doubleheader was delayed 95 minutes by rain. The teams were attempting to play a second nine-inning contest Monday late Monday night.
The victory kept the Sea Warriors (10-3, 4-1) unbeaten at home in six contests. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Lancers (15-4, 1-4), who opened the season with 15 consecutive wins and a win streak of 24 dating back to last season.
Cal Baptist took a 2-0 lead in the first, only to have HPU answer back with four in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Derek Nakasato’s RBI double to left. The Lancers responded with single runs in the third, fifth and six, but the Sea Warriors tied it up in the seventh on Samuel Goold’s sacrifice fly to left that plated Tokunaga.
» Austin Cusack’s pinch-hit, two-run single to center highlighted a four-run eighth and Hawaii Hilo handed Point Loma Nazarene its first PacWest loss, winning Monday’s opener of a scheduled doubleheader at Wong Stadium 4-3.
Monday’s second game was postponed until Wednesday at 10 a.m. The Vulcans (3-6, 2-3 PacWest) and Sea Lions (11-7, 4-1) will attempt to get in their scheduled doubleheader Tuesday starting at 4 p.m.
