Second man charged in possible homicide
Hawaii County police have charged a second man in connection with the disappearance of 44-year-old Dante Peter Gilman of Hawaiian Acres.
Kawena K. Krause, 19, of Kurtistown was charged Saturday with second-degree murder.
Gilman was last seen Dec. 30 and was reported missing Jan. 10. Further investigation led police to believe Gilman may have been the victim of a homicide.
Police had previously charged Krause’s cousin Claude K. Krause, 30, of Kurtistown with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, second-degree theft, two counts of possession of a prohibited firearm and the use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony.
Both men remain in custody pending their initial court appearances today.
Motorcyclist critical after crash on Nimitz
A 29-year-old man was in critical condition after he lost control of his motorcycle Sunday night on Nimitz Highway near the airport and was thrown to the road.
Police said the motorcycle was traveling east on Nimitz Highway near Peltier Avenue when the driver, who is believed to have been speeding, lost control of his bike. The accident occurred just after 10 p.m. Police said the motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet.
New Year’s Day shooting suspect charged
A 26-year-old man has been charged for firing at least six shots at three people Jan. 1 in the Salt Lake area.
Rodney J. Whipple was arrested and charged with one count of suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and firearms and ammunition violations.
Police arrested Whipple on Friday. He gave no local address.
Police said a man with a gun confronted a 33-year-old man, 32-year-old man and 25-year-old female at about 2:25 a.m Jan. 1 and fired at least six shots.
A bullet grazed one of the victims, and he was treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Services, police said.
