Escapee is back in prison after 3-month absence
A 42-year-old Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate was back behind bars Friday after being free for more than three months.
Jonathan Singh was on a work furlough in April and never returned to the prison.
Singh was finally captured just after 7:30 p.m. Thursday near Kahuku Hospital after a prison official saw him near a bus stop and reported it.
Singh was serving time for auto theft and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.
He was arrested for second-degree escape, which could add five years to his sentence.
2 men sought after Pearlridge Center brawl
Police on Friday were looking for two men wanted in an attempted-murder investigation in connection with an incident stemming from a fight at Pearlridge Center.
Police said a fight among a group of people occurred in the parking lot at the center near the Fernandez Fun Factory.
One man was punched during the fight, and another was struck by a vehicle and suffered substantial bodily injuries, police said.
Police dispatch said an all-points bulletin was issued for two men riding in an older-model, four-door Ford sedan with a cracked windshield driven by a woman. Police have opened attempted-murder and assault cases.
Blaze destroys Kihei house, displaces 14
A fire apparently caused by accidental use of fireworks destroyed a Kihei, Maui, home Friday night. The fire on Oe Street displaced 14 residents, a fire official said.
Damage was estimated at $400,000 to the structure, $50,000 to contents and $70,000 to vehicles and equipment.
Fire officials said the cause was accidental involving fireworks.
