Man found near Turtle Bay is identified
The Honolulu medical examiner’s office said Monday it has identified the 47-year-old Northern California man whose body was pulled from the ocean off Turtle Bay Resort on Friday as Roger Carasso.
An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death of Carasso, who was from San Rafael.
He was pulled out of the ocean at 12:50 p.m. Friday. He was taken in critical condition to a hospital where he later died.
Burglar targets offices of UH building
The University of Hawaii Department of Public Safety reported a burglary between midnight Monday and 7:24 a.m. Tuesday of fifth-floor offices in Kuykendall Hall.
A computer was taken from one office, and the burglar tried to enter other offices on the fifth floor, a faculty member said in an email.
The burglar apparently gained entry by climbing on mailboxes outside office doors and likely using a trash can from the fifth-floor restroom, the faculty member said.
Woman dead from knife wounds is named
The Honolulu medical examiner’s office has identified the 30-year-old Wahiawa woman who died of knife wounds Saturday as Judy Nitahara.
Nitahara died at Wahiawa General Hospital of stab wounds to her body. Her death was classified as a suicide.
Sixth suspect in crime spree is charged
A 26-year-old Captain Cook man, the sixth suspect in a four-month-long crime spree on Hawaii island, was charged Monday with 40 offenses.
The crime spree occurred between Oct. 7 and Jan. 16 from South Kohala to Kau and included commercial burglaries, auto thefts, car break-ins and the theft and fraudulent use of credit cards, Hawaii County police said.
Police arrested Stephen Graham on Saturday at OTEC Beach in Kailua-Kona on a bench warrant for contempt of court.
Graham was charged Monday with four counts of burglary, seven counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, five counts of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, eight counts of theft, three counts of terroristic threatening, three counts of theft/forgery of a credit card, three counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, two counts of unauthorized possession of personal confidential information, two counts of resisting an order to stop and one count each of criminal property damage, reckless endangering and speeding. His bail was set at $384,250.
The five others charged in connection with this series of crimes are Douglas Kaimiola, 30, and Dyllan Paulo-Leslie, 19, of Captain Cook; Joshua White, 23, and Keoni Yamada, 30, of Kailua-Kona; and Logan Kahele-Bishop, 25, of Naalehu.
