8 people sickened by chemical odor at Mililani Ike Elementary
Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of a chemical odor at Mililani Ike Elementary School on Monday afternoon.
EMS treated eight patients at about 1:20 p.m. Six students, girls and boys 9 and 10 years old, were taken to a hospital.
However, two of the student’s guardians refused transport to the hospital for the children.
All the patients were in stable condition, but complained of a variety of symptoms, including headaches and nausea possibly from a chemical odor.
A Honolulu Fire Department hazardous materials team responded to a 1:16 p.m. call and arrived at the school at 1:22 p.m. The hazmat personnel, using air monitoring devices, were unable to detect any hazardous gas.
