Electricians’ rodeo set for February on Hawaii island
Hawaii island will be the site of a rodeo in February — for electrical workers.
Hawaii Electric Light Co. said the rodeo will be a friendly competition among electrical workers who erect and maintain poles, wires and underground cables.
Contests include pole-climbing, “hurt man” rescues and other simulations of challenges electrical workers confront.
The competition will take place at Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area in Kailua-Kona on Feb. 23. The rodeo is sponsored by HELCO and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1260.
About 40 teams of line workers from Hawaii and the mainland are expected to compete.
