Man charged in attempted robbery
City prosecutors charged a 36-year-old Waianae man for allegedly trying to rob two men in a Makaha parking lot.
Police said Jesse Cole pointed a gun at the men at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, then fled in a car when the men refused to give him money. Officers arrested Cole 45 minutes later near a 7-Eleven store on Farrington Highway.
Cole was charged with first-degree robbery. His bail was set Thursday at $50,000.
Swimmer drowns at ‘Blue Room’ cave
A 27-year-old visitor from Pittsburgh died Friday afternoon in an apparent drowning at Waikapalae Cave in Haena, Kauai.
According to the Kauai Fire Department, the man had been swimming in the cave, also known as the "Blue Room," with three other people when he experienced distress and submerged at about 3:50 p.m.
Fire rescue personnel responding to a subsequent emergency call retrieved the man’s body at 3:57 p.m.
The man was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead.
This was the third drowning on Kauai this year.
