Dixie State trips BYUH in overtime
The BYU-Hawaii men’s basketball team suffered a 107-94 overtime loss to Dixie State on Tuesday in St. George, Utah.
Dixie State went on a 10-0 run to start the overtime period to surge to the win.
Luke Aston had a double-double, scoring 21 points with 11 boards for the Seasiders.
Point Loma rolls past Chaminade
The Chaminade men’s basketball team dropped its game against Point Loma, 83-62, in San Diego.
Tyree Harrison had a career-high tying 16 points and Kuany Kuany added 15 for the Silverswords.
Hayden Lescault scored 30 points to lead the Sea Lions and help improve Point Loma to 9-8 in the PacWest and 14-8 overall.
Chaminade fell to 10-4 and 13-9 overall. The Silverswords will need to finish in the top six of the PacWest for a berth in the conference tournament.
Sea Lions drop Silverswords in hoops
The Chaminade women’s basketball team started off its final road trip of the season with an 87-51 loss to Point Loma in San Diego.
The Silverswords dropped to 3-11 in the PacWest and 3-17 overall. The Sea Lions are now 9-7 and 12-9 overall.
Sabrina Angle had 15 points, including five 3-pointers and seven rebounds to lead Chaminade.
Lilia Maio added 14 points and was one rebound shy of her fourth double-double of the season.
Jessica Escorza scored 19 points for Point Loma.
Red Storm women edge Seasiders
The BYU-Hawaii women’s basketball team fell to Dixie State 62-60 in St. George, Utah.
The Seasiders rallied from an 11-point deficit and tied the game when Jiashan Cui hit a 3-pointer with 16.7 second left, but lost in the final seconds when Dixie State’s Haley Holmstead hit a baseline jumper to seal it.
BYU-Hawaii fell to 2-13 in the PacWest and 2-18 overall, while the Red Storm improved to 8-7 and 10-11.
Danna Lynn Hooper led the Seasiders with 20 points and five assists, and Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo added 13 points. Cui finished with 11 points.
Hawaii women’s golf team places fourth
The Hawaii women’s golf team took fourth place at the Matador Invitational, held at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
The Rainbow Wahine shot a final-round 314 and finished at 933 after three rounds.
Freshman Izz Leung was the top finisher for Hawaii, shooting 16-over 232 and tying for 15th place.
Other Hawaii golfers included Raquel Ek, who shot a 235, Kelli Anne Katsuda (236) and Charlee Kapiooho-Sagum (238).
ASP women add Maui to finish ’14 season
The Association of Surfing Professionals announced that Maui will be the final venue on the 2014 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour.
The season-ending event will be held Nov. 24 through Dec. 6 at Honolua Bay.
