HPU women stay perfect in PacWest

Breanna Mackenzie scored 19 points and Chenise Peone added 17 points and 16 rebounds as Hawaii Pacific edged Academy of Art 72-71 in a Pacific West Conference women’s basketball game Thursday at San Francisco.

The Sharks improved to 16-2 overall and 11-0 in the PacWest.

Sha’nice Storey of the Urban Knights (11-7, 6-6) missed a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining.

» Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo scored 18 points and Mata Tonga had 12 points and 14 rebounds as Brigham Young-Hawaii beat Fresno Pacific 66-57 at Fresno, Calif. The Seasiders improved to 11-5 overall and 8-2 in the PacWest, while the Sunbirds fell to 2-12 and 2-7.

» McKenzie Mangino scored 18 points and Hayley Reynolds added 14 as Hawaii Hilo beat Holy Names 73-62 at Oakland, Calif. The Vulcans improved to 5-9 overall and 4-6 in the PacWest, while the Hawks dropped to 2-16 and 1-9.

Seasider men knock off Sunbirds

Justin Yamzon scored 17 points, Pablo Coro 13 and Tyler Tuliau 12 as Brigham Young-Hawaii beat Fresno Pacific 82-73 in a Pacific West Conference men’s basketball game Thursday at Fresno, Calif.

The Seasiders improved to 14-2 overall and 8-2 in the PacWest, while the Sunbirds moved to 5-11 and 1-8.

» Justin Long scored 15 points, Luke Hager 14 and Josh Morgan 11 as Hawaii Pacific defeated Academy of Art 76-60 at San Francisco. The Sharks improved to 12-5 overall and 7-4 in the PacWest, while the Urban Knights fell to 4-12 and 2-8.
