Punahou ranked 17th in national poll
The Punahou football team finished the season ranked 17th nationally by MaxPreps, following an undefeated season.
The Buffanblu went 11-0 in capturing the Division I state championship and were presented the Army National Guard national ranking trophy at a school assembly on Monday. Punahou is one of 50 schools being honored on the MaxPreps Tour of Champions, presented by the Army National Guard.
"We’re grateful that an organization such as MaxPreps has ranked us in the top 25. We’ve never been able to accomplish this before and we’re honored to be included," Punahou coach Kale Ane said in a release.
Rainbow Wahine golf team in ninth place
The University of Hawaii women’s golf team ended the opening day of the UC Irvine Invitational in ninth place after posting a 36-hole total of 617 on Monday.
UH was tied for fourth place after shooting a 303 in the first round, but slipped to ninth with a 314 in the second round at Santa Ana Country Club. Eighth-ranked Stanford leads the 13-team field at 578.
Freshman Kelli-Ann Katsuda led UH with rounds of 76 and 77 and is tied for 24th at 9-over-par 153.
Rainbow Wahine freshman Raquel Ek is one stroke behind and tied for 31st.
University High graduate Alice Kim of Gonzaga is tied for 15th at 6 over. ‘Iolani graduate Marissa Chow of Pepperdine is tied for 18th at 7 over. Waves teammate Alina Ching (Punahou) is at 9 over.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with the third round.
