Gordon Bruce, former chief information officer for the City and County of Honolulu, has become chief executive officer of Honolulu-based information technology company Pacxa.
Bruce, a 30-year IT industry veteran, oversaw the city’s creation of an online system for services such as vehicle registrations, building permit applications and driver’s test bookings.
Island Holdings, Pacxa’s parent, created the company last year by combining its Hoike Networks subsidiary with two local IT companies, And You’re Up LLC and Century Computers, according to a news release from Island Holdings.
Pacxa clients include companies such as Hawaiian Pacific Health, Hawaiian Telcom, Bank of Hawaii and several state agencies.

"We are confident that his skills, expertise and innovative thinking will strengthen Pacxa’s position as a leader in technology solutions in Hawaii and beyond."
Bruce left his position with the city Dec. 28 after eight years.
He said he originally planned to serve four years, but stayed on for eight years to finish the initiatives he started.
Bruce said in his new position he intends to foster the growth of Hawaii’s high-tech workforce so that more local students can pursue high-paying, high-tech jobs without leaving the state.
"There is no reason we should be importing talent when there is so much of it in our own backyard," he said.
