Chen, Michnev best of PacWest
Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Shih Ting Chen and Hawaii Pacific’s Petr Michnev received Athletes of the Year awards from the Pacific West Conference this week.
Chen, named the women’s recipient on Tuesday, is an incoming senior outside hitter on the Seasiders volleyball team. For the third straight season, Chen was the Pacwest Player of the Year and was named to the first-team all-conference squad. She ranked second in the nation in kills (5.10) and points (5.69) per set and led BYUH to a 29-2 record, which included a spot in the national championship match.
On the men’s side, Michnev took home the award on Wednesday. Michnev was an ITA All-American in both singles and doubles with records of 15-2 and 21-2, respectively. The ITA West Region Senior Player of the Year, Michnev competed at No. 1 singles and helped guide the Sea Warriors to a second-place finish at the NCAA Championships. He was also named the PacWest Male Scholar Athlete of the Year last week.
