Seasiders women take down Silverswords
Bry Tatupu-Leopoldo scored 29 points and Shayla Washington added 25 as Brigham Young-Hawaii overwhelmed Chaminade 102-76 in a Pacific West Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at McCabe Gym.
Rhani Kaneaiakala had 12 points to lead the Silverswords, who slid to 1-17 overall and 1-12 in the PacWest.
The Seasiders improved to 6-12 and 5-7.
» The Chaminade men improved to 10-3 in PacWest play with a 75-64 win over BYU-Hawaii at McCabe Gym.
Bennie Murray scored 18 points, De’Andre Haskins 17 and Waly Coulibaly 15 for the Silverswords (13-8).
Okesene Ale led the Seasiders (10-10, 7-5) with 22 points.
» Jasmine Beverly scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to power California Baptist (15-5, 9-3) to a 60-50 victory over the Hawaii Hilo women in Hilo. Kamie Imai, Kirsty Imai and Jazzmyn Davis had 10 points each for the Vulcans (11-8, 8-5).
» At Hilo, the UH Hilo men lost to California Baptist (13-7, 7-5) 83-70.
Oxone-Ross Mavungu, CJ Brown and Brandon Thomas each scored 12 points for the Vulcans (5-16, 3-10).
» Farbod Farman had 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the Hawaii Pacific men to a 60-58 victory over Point Loma Nazarene (4-16, 1-11) at the Blaisdell Arena.
The Sea Warriors rallied from a 30-28 halftime deficit to improve to 8-11 and 5-7.
» The HPU women lost just their third conference game this season, falling 87-80 to Point Loma Nazarene (10-10, 6-6) at Blaisdell Arena.
Skye Savini led the Sea Warriors (13-5, 9-3) with 25 points and eight rebounds, and Melody Ladrido added 21 points.
UH Hilo baseball drops two to Augustana
The Hawaii Hilo baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Augustana (S.D.) on Saturday at Wong Stadium. The Vulcans dropped the first game 16-13, then lost the seven-inning second game 8-6.
UH Hilo fell to 1-3. Augustana improved to 4-5.
HPU softball blanks BYU-Hawaii
Alysia Maddison and Kristen Caskey each spun five-inning shutouts, while Dorian Acierto was 4-for-5 with seven RBIs as Hawaii Pacific opened its softball season Saturday with a sweep of Brigham Young-Hawaii, 8-0 and 10-0, at Howard A. Okita Field.
BYU-Hawaii fell to 0-8.
