Bystanders aid pair in trouble in ocean near Kahe Power Plant
Attendees at a nearby baby shower helped to rescue a pair of visitors who ran into trouble in waters off Electric Beach in Nanakuli on Saturday.
Witnesses saw the couple, identified as a man and woman in their 20s, swimming in the area around 4:30 p.m. when rough surf dragged them over an outcropping of rocks.
According to witness Justin Friesen, three young men who were attending the shower stripped off their shirts and dove into the water to help the couple.
"It was a good thing they were there," Friesen said. "The guy had a gash on his head and they were both beaten up pretty badly from the rocks. The waves were pretty rough but the guys just went in. It was pretty commendable."
The young men helped the woman swim back to shore; her companion made it back on a borrowed surfboard.
"When they came back in, they were all bleeding from the rocks," Friesen said.
