High surf advisory issued for north and west shores

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for most islands until 4 a.m. Monday.

The advisory covers the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai. The north shores of Maui and the west shores of the Big Island are also included.

Surf of 10 to 15 feet is expected along the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai and the north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui.

West-facing shores of Oahu and Molokai can expect surf of 8 to 12 feet, while west-facing shores of the Big Island can expect 6 to 10 feet of surf.

Swimmers should expect strong breaking waves and strong currents. Beachgoers are urged to heed advice from Ocean Safety officials and exercise caution.
