High surf advisory issued for north and west shores
There may not be really high surf at the Banzai Pipeline or off Ehukai Beach Park on the North Shore, but the waves were still pumping for surfers and beach goers.
The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for most islands until 6 p.m. Sunday.
The advisory covers the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai. The north shores of Maui and west shores of the Big Island are also included.
Surf along the north and west shores of Niihau and Kauai and surf along the north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui is expected to build to 10 to 15 feet Friday night, increasing to 15 to 20 feet Saturday.
West-facing shores of Oahu and Molokai may see waves from 8 to 12 feet Friday night, increasing to 10 to 15 feet Saturday.
Surf along the west shores of the Big Island is expected to remain 6 to 10 feet through Sunday.
Swimmers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong currents. Beachgoers are urged to heed advice from Ocean Safety officials and exercise caution.
