Pair of Seasiders earn weekly honors
Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo was named Pacific West Conference women’s basketball player of the week and the Seasiders’ Pablo Coro shared the men’s honor.
Tatupu-Leopoldo, a senior from Honolulu, had 53 points in a win over Madonna and a loss to Hawaii Pacific.
Coro, a senior from Osorno, Chile, finished with 19 points and eight assists in a win over HPU.
Coro shared the honor with Dominican’s Matt Hayes.
HPU’s Breanna Mackenzie was named women’s freshman of the week.
Mackenzie, of Melbourne, Australia, totaled 26 points in wins over Madonna and BYUH.
HPU women remain perfect in league play
Kylie Huerta had 27 points and nine rebounds as the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team beat Point Loma Nazarene 85-62 in a Pacific West Conference game Monday at Blaisdell Arena.
The Sea Lions improved to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Morganne Comstock had 14 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks, and Chenise Peone and Breanna Mackenzie also scored 14 points for the Sharks (11-2, 6-0).
Hayley Reynolds had 17 points and eight rebounds and McKenzie Mangino finished with 15 points and eight rebounds as host Hawaii Hilo rallied past Notre Dame de Namur 68-63 on Monday.
The Vulcans (3-6, 2-3 PacWest) outscored the Argonauts (0-6, 2-11) 45-33 in the second half.
Leslie Tademy had 16 points and Brianna Jessop grabbed 13 rebounds for Notre Dame de Namur.
UH Hilo men beat Notre Dame de Namur
Tre Johnson had 21 points and eight rebounds and Darnell Williams finished with 18 points as the Hawaii Hilo men’s basketball team beat Notre Dame de Namur 72-52 in a Pacific West Conference game Monday at Hilo Civic Auditorium.
The Vulcans improved to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the PacWest.
James Northup scored 13 points for the Argonauts (2-10, 1-5).
Sam Okhotin hit six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points as Point Loma Nazarene beat Hawaii Pacific 84-58 on Monday at Neal Blaisdell Arena.
The Sea Lions improved to 10-2 overall and 3-2 in the PacWest.
Luke Hager scored 18 points and Josh Morgan added 17 for the Sharks (7-4, 3-3).
