Kauai man critically injured in two-vehicle crash near Hanalei
A 64-year-old Hanalei man driving a Nissan sedan was critically injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Kuhio Highway near the Hanalei bridge, Kauai police said.
The crash occurred at about 3:45 p.m. between the Nissan sedan and a Jeep sport utility vehicle headed in the opposite direction on the highway.
Police said the Nissan was heading down a hill toward Hanalei town, crossed the center line near the hairpin turn, when a Jeep struck the car’s passenger side.
The SUV driver and passenger sustained minor injuries and did not require medical treatment, police said.
The Nissan driver was taken in critical condition to Wilcox Hospital.
Police shut down Kuhio Highway in both directions from about 4 p.m. to allow Traffic Safety officers to investigate and clear the scene.
