Orchestra program open to children
St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Palama, in partnership with the Kalikolehua-El Sistema youth music program, is signing children up for a free orchestra program beginning Jan. 14.
Twenty seats are available. The program will run four days a week, 3 to 5 p.m., through May.
The program is modeled after a well-known Venezuelan orchestra made up of kids from poor neighborhoods, the Rev. David Gierlach said in a news release.
Children will be taught by symphony-trained musicians to play violins, violas, cellos and other instruments provided by donations from the McInerny Foundation, the I‘o Foundation and the Crosier family. The children will also learn to perform as a choral group.
The church is at 720 N. King St. Call 673-8930 to sign up or for more information.
