Big Island police seek man who allegedly used stolen credit card

Hawaii County police asked for the public’s help Friday in identifying a man who allegedly stole more than $1,700 by using someone else’s credit card for purchases in Hilo, Waimea and Pahoa.
A security camera recorded a photo of the man who allegedly used the card.
Police described the suspect as in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, bald with a goatee, and with tattoos on his neck and left arm. Police ask that anyone with information on his identity or his whereabouts call the police non-emergency line at 935-3311.
Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
Police reminded merchants to follow proper protocol when making credit card transactions and to be especially cautious when processing large purchases, especially if the credit card doesn’t swipe properly. When in doubt, check with the credit card company, police said.
