Without a naming sponsor, it’s the Hawai‘i Bowl
A lot of people are still calling this year’s Christmas Eve football game at Aloha Stadium the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl, but apparently that just isn’t so any more.
Sheraton Hotels and Resorts Hawaii had been the sponsor of the game since 2003, but did not renew for 2014. It’s still listed on the Hawai‘i Bowl website as a "presenting sponsor," along with Heineken, followed by a list of almost 30 "supporting sponsors" ranging from Allstate to Xerox. But it’s definitely now just the Hawai‘i Bowl — one of four bowl games out of 38 unable to sell naming rights to their nationally televised games.
Nevertheless, whether watching it in person or on ESPN, it should be a good game, featuring 6-7 Fresno State of the Mountain West versus 7-5 Rice of Conference USA. An early gift from Santa Claus.
Lizards go on a diet, unwillingly
Lots of folks go to great lengths for the health and comfort of their pets. They love them, which makes it hard to think of such things as luxuries.
But the angst of lizard and chameleon owners because of a shortage of their choice food supply — crickets — certainly seems like an uncommon First World problem. There are humans poor enough to consider creepy crawlies as their own food source, let’s face it.
Crickets are noisy, and so are coquis. Hmmm … wonder if the lizards would eat them?
