Ring in Year of the Horse at Royal Hawaiian Center

Royal Hawaiian Center is welcoming the Year of the Horse with a Chinese New Year celebration beginning at 5 p.m. tomorrow with firecrackers to ward off evil spirits, followed by Chinese entertainment in the Royal Grove.

The show will open with a traditional lion dance by Kong’s Siu Lum Pai Kung Fu Association. Visitors are invited to take part in the tradition of feeding the lions "li see" (red money envelopes) to bring good luck, health and prosperity in the coming year. There will also be dancing by Phoenix Dance Chamber, a plate-balancing act by Elena Tan and an appearance by the Miss Chinatown Hawaii court.

Inspired by the li see tradition, the center will offer limited-edition shopping totes in two color options: a white background emblazoned with a red hibiscus or a red background with a white hibiscus. Shoppers who redeem $250 in same-day Royal Hawaiian Center store and restaurant receipts may pick up a complimentary tote bag at Helu­moa Hale and Guest Services adjacent to the Royal Grove.

There is a limit of one tote bag per person, per day, while supplies last.

Special bracelets support AIDS campaign

Aldo launches its new "Aldo Fights AIDS" fundraising and awareness campaign (#FriendsFight) on Saturday, with $5 friendship bracelets available for purchase in Aldo stores and online.

Aldo teamed up with designer Waris Ahlu­wa­lia on a special collection of friendship bracelets, with the slogan "Waris Loves You." The bracelets promote friendship, togetherness and activism. All proceeds will benefit the nonprofit organization Partners in Health.

Deck out keiki in patriotic Olympics garb

Just for kids, Aeropostale has launched a Kids Team USA Olympics apparel and accessories collection in time for the XXII Olympic Winter Games, officially opening Feb. 7 in Sochi, Russia.
