Southern University’s Devin Jenkins, a 2012 Kapolei High graduate, set the school’s indoor record in the 60 meters, running 6.67 seconds in the final of the Jaguars’ season-opening meet on Jan. 17.
Jenkins, who took first at the University of Houston Invitational, ran a 6.68 in the prelims before shaving a hundredth of a second off in the finals to break the Southern University record previously held by his head coach, Brian Johnson.
"When Devin ran 6.68, my first reaction was he is going to run 9.90 in the 100 when the season is over," Johnson said. "I think him setting this record so early means the next meet we go to he is going to break it again."
Jenkins will run again at an invitational hosted by Southern Mississippi on Friday.
