Suspect charged with attempted murder
Prosecutors charged a 27-year-old Waianae man with attempted murder Thursday in connection with a shooting in Waianae early on New Year’s Day.
Benjamin A. Alailefaleula, of an Ala Walua Street address, was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. He was also charged with two firearms counts.
Police said a man, 34, was leaving his Waianae home at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when he was shot.
The assailant fled the area, police said.
Police identified Alailefaleula as a suspect and contacted him. He turned himself in and was arrested at the police station in Kapolei at about 7:35 p.m. Tuesday.
The victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition. His current condition was not disclosed.
Alleged stabber held in attack on woman
Prosecutors charged a 60-year-old man with second-degree attempted murder Tuesday.
Police arrested Rance Saiki for allegedly stabbing a 51-year-old woman in Palolo at 8:57 a.m. Monday with a dangerous instrument. Police said the woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Saiki’s bail was set at $100,000.

Passenger dies after collision in Kahului
A Haiku woman died Tuesday after a truck collided with the car in which she was riding in Kahului, Maui police said.
Police identified the victim as Constance Scott, 61.
The Maui News reported that Scott was in a northbound sedan on Kahului Beach Road. As the driver, a 64-year-old man, was turning left onto Wahine Pio Avenue, the car collided with a pickup truck traveling south on Kahului Beach Road.
Scott was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center and died at 8:05 p.m. The 64-year-old driver of the sedan was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
The 31-year-old man who was driving the pickup and his passenger, a 35-year-old man, were not injured.
All four people were wearing seat belts.
Police rerouted traffic in the area for about six hours while officers investigated the crash.
Man carrying gun on highway faces charges
Hawaii County police have charged a Kailua-Kona man with five firearms offenses for allegedly carrying a loaded shotgun on a highway in Kealakekua.
Police arrested Ioster Henly, 39, Tuesday after a motorist reported seeing a man in a red sweatshirt carrying what looked like a rifle as he walked along Mamalahoa Highway near Hale Kii Street.
Responding officers approached the man, who ran into the brush behind Pualani Terrace. The officers located and arrested Henly and recovered a loaded shotgun. Henly also was carrying an additional 16 shotgun rounds, police said.
Henly was taken to the Kona police cellblock and charged Wednesday with possessing a loaded firearm on a public highway, and violations related to ammunition, gun registration and permits. His bail was set at $13,000.
