Freon leak clears out Waipio Foodland
A freon leak Saturday morning forced the evacuation of Foodland in Waipio.
Firefighters responded to a call about 10 a.m. and found that a cooling system in the back of the structure had released about 800 pounds of freon, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman David Jenkins.
He said the system no longer had any more freon and what was released had dissipated. The scene was cleared around noon.
Jenkins said two employees discovered the leak at the supermarket at 94-1040 Waipio Uka St. and called firefighters. The cause of the leak was not immediately known.
