Hawaii wins second straight in women’s basketball
Senior Shawna-Lei Kuehu scored 17 points to lead four Hawaii players in double figures as the Rainbow Wahine defeated North Carolina Greensboro 74-54 in a nonconference basketball game Friday afternoon at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Kuehu added a game-high nine rebounds — one shy of her fourth double-double of the season — for Hawaii (8-5). She left the game with 6:11 remaining with an undisclosed injury.
Seniors Ashleigh Karaitiana and Morgan Mason and freshman Sarah Toeaina each added 11 for the Rainbow Wahine.
Junior Lucy Mason led the Spartans (5-10) with 17 points and senior Jessica Collins added 12.
Hawaii takes a two-game winning streak on the road when opening Big West play. The Rainbow Wahine are at Cal Poly on Thursday and Cal State Northridge on Jan. 10.
The Matadors were the preseason pick to win the conference, with the Wahine second and the Mustangs third.
