Wahine 11th in final volleyball poll
The Hawaii volleyball team finished at No. 11 in the final AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll released Tuesday.
The Rainbow Wahine (27-3) ended their season in the NCAA second round with a five-set loss at Washington. The Huskies (25-7) were No. 9 in Tuesday’s poll.
Texas (29-4), winning its first NCAA title since beating Hawaii in the final in 1988, finished No. 1. National runner-up Oregon (30-5) was second, followed by Penn State (33-3), Stanford (30-4) and Michigan (27-12).
Higgins, Kan on All-America team
Senior setter Tayler Higgins and senior hitter Carly Kan, who led Punahou to two consecutive state titles, have been named to the MaxPreps Volleyball All-America teams
Higgins, who has committed to Hawaii, was one of 15 players honored on the first team. She had 439 assists in 50 sets last season as the Buffanblu went 18-1 and finished No. 8 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings.
Kan, the Star-Advertiser’s state player of the year, was named to the 15-member third team. She has committed to Missouri.
