Family of North Korean prisoner to attend State of Union speech
SEATTLE >> The sister and mother of a Washington man imprisoned in North Korea are attending the State of the Union Address.
Congressman Rick Larsen says Kenneth Bae’s mother Myunghee Bae and sister Terri Chung are his guests and guests of New York Congressman Charles Rangel.
Larsen represents a district north of Seattle where the family members live. Rangel is a Korean War veteran who says North Korea should take steps to build trust and reconciliation by first reuniting the Bae family.
Kenneth Bae is from Lynnwood and has been living in China. He was leading a tour group to an economic zone in North Korea in November 2012 when he was arrested and accused of crimes against the state. His sister says his Christian faith got him into trouble.
