Woman charged in assault of girl, 9, with hammer at Oakland school

OAKLAND, Calif. >> Prosecutors have charged a Northern California woman with sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl with a hammer at the girl’s elementary school.

Alameda County prosecutors on Tuesday charged 48-year-old Haseemah Diame of Oakland with several crimes including sexual penetration of a child under 10 and inflicting mayhem and torture, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Diame allegedly lured the girl to a boy’s bathroom at Lafayette Elementary School in Oakland where she assaulted the girl with a hammer on Friday, according to a criminal complaint.

Diame was taken into custody after a school security guard walked into the restroom.

Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint says Diame, who volunteered frequently at the school, may have targeted the girl for possible revenge in a family feud.

Diame’s daughter is a second grader at the school.
