2 men injured, 1 fatally, in crashes minutes apart
Two accidents within minutes of each other in the same part of Kapolei left one man dead and another critically injured on New Year’s Eve.
At 9 p.m. Wednesday, a 20-year-old Kapolei man riding an off-road vehicle crashed into a car in a residential area of Kapolei and died at a hospital.
Police said the collision happened when the man was traveling north on Kealiiahonui Street, drove through a stop sign and struck a car driven by a 44-year-old Waipahu woman. The car was eastbound on Kamakahelei Street.
The man was taken in critical condition to an area hospital, where he later died, police said. It is unknown whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The Medical Examiner’s Office did not release the man’s identity.
At 9:05 p.m., a 40-year-old man crashed his moped on Kealiiahonui Street, according to Honolulu Emergency Services
He was treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
