9 kayakers rescued in waters off West Maui
Maui Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard crews scooped up nine kayakers who ran into difficulty about one-half mile off of Camp Olowalu Friday afternoon.
Fire personnel on a rescue watercraft picked up two people from the cluster of kayaks and took them shore at Camp Olowalu shortly after the incident was reported about 2:05 p.m., the fire department said.
The rescue watercraft then picked up three other kayakers and transported them to the Alii Nui, a catamaran that had been anchored nearby on a snorkeling exhibition.
A Coast Guard vessel then appeared on scene and picked up the remaining kayakers, the fire department said.
No one required medical attention.
