3 are accused of stealing copper along H-3 freeway
Prosecutors Friday charged two men and a woman from Kaneohe with allegedly stealing copper wiring Wednesday afternoon along the H-3 freeway.
Police said a passing motorist saw people apparently stealing copper wiring and loading it onto a pickup truck at 1:24 p.m. Wednesday on the freeway near Hospital Rock in Windward Oahu.
The motorist saw the suspects leave toward Kaneohe and take the Likelike Highway offramp. Officers arrested them at 1:50 p.m.
John Edward Hokuolani Abraham, 41, Joseph Henry Barrrozo, 47, and Anna Marie Michiko Correa, 46, all of the same Kaneohe address, were each charged with copper theft, a Class C felony. Each also had an outstanding warrant.
Bail was set at $50,000 for the two men and $15,000 for Correa.
Recaptured convict and 2 accomplices charged in escape
Authorities charged a man who escaped from the Hawaii Correctional Center in Hilo with multiple offenses after he was recaptured Thursday night.
Police also arrested and charged two people who allegedly helped Ryan James Jeffries-Hamar, 31, hide from authorities.
Police said Jeffries-Hamar and Jarvis Naoki Higa, 35, escaped from the Hilo jail Dec. 5 after overpowering and assaulting a corrections officer and leaving in the jail librarian’s car.
Higa was captured Dec. 7 in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision in Kau. Jeffries-Hamar was arrested at a home in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision in Pahoa.
Tyler John Tzovarras and Elizabeth Maile Medeiros were charged with hindering prosecution for allegedly helping Jeffries-Hamar.

Fire destroys Kauai building, mars 3 others
Fire destroyed the Hanamaulu Trading Co. on Kauai on Friday afternoon, the Kauai Fire Department reported.
The building was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived following the 3:19 p.m. alarm. The building was deemed a total loss, the department said.
The building also contains the Hanamaulu Post Office and several other business.
The fire also damaged three adjacent buildings, the department said.
Firefighters deemed the fire to be under control by 4:28 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Hanamaulu Trading Co. is at 3-4251 Kuhio Highway.
Police closed Kuhio Highway in Hanamaulu, between Hanamaulu Road and Laukona Street. Traffic was diverted through the neighborhood.
Shots in Hilo lead to charges against suspect
Hawaii island officials charged a 48-year-old Hawaiian Ocean View Estates man with firearms violations and other offenses after someone fired a gun Thursday morning in Hilo.
Allen Benjamin III is accused of second-degree reckless endangering, place to keep ammunition, place to keep pistol, first-degree theft and two counts of prohibited ownership/possession. His bail was set at $15,000.
Police received a call at 12:46 a.m. Thursday that someone fired a gun in the Hilo industrial area. No one was hurt.
Witnesses led officers to a vehicle parked on Makaala Street, which led police to Benjamin. Police recovered a weapon and ammunition.
