Authorities are working to contain a diesel fuel spill from a 77-foot fishing vessel that sank Sunday in Honolulu Harbor.

The Coast Guard said it and the state Department of Transportation’s harbors division were responding to the spill from an abandoned fishing vessel that sank.

The vessel Judy K was reported to be sinking at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Pier 16, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard said it deployed approximately 150 feet of containment boom as well as absorbent pads to deal with the spill. About 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the water before containment boom was put into place.

There was no fishing equipment aboard.  

Boaters were being cautioned to watch for possible debris from the sunken ship on entrance to Honolulu Harbor.
