SUV crash temporarily knocks power out to hundreds in Aiea
Six out of 515 Hawaiian Electric Co. customers in Aiea remained without power Wednesday morning after an SUV crashed into a HECO transformer on Kaonohi Street near Kamehameha Highway.
The crash was reported at 6:17 a.m. and firefighters arrived at 6:25 a.m., said acting Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Kendall Ching. No one was in the vehicle when firefighters arrived and no one was injured, Ching said.
A city emergency medical services crew checked a 22-year-old man at the scene but he refused transport to a hospital, said EMS spokeswoman Shayne Enright.
The white SUV was heading west on Kaonohi Street when it crashed into a telephone pole and a HECO transformer, HECO said.
HECO repair crews restored power to all but six customers Wednesday morning. Their service will resume once crews replace the damaged transformer, HECO officials said.
