Investigators rule out arson in Lahaina apartment fire
Maui fire investigators and police did not find any immediate evidence that a fire that destroyed a third-floor apartment in a Lahaina apartment complex Monday night was intentionally set.
About 50 people from the Sunset Terrace apartment complex at 626 Lower Honoapiilani Road were evacuated after the alarm was called just after 6 p.m.
No one was in the apartment at the time of the fire. The lone resident of the unit was displaced and is now staying with relatives.
No injuries were reported.
Fire damages to the one unit were estimated at $60,000 for the structure and $40,000 to its contents.
The fire did not extend beyond the one third-story unit. It was brought under control at 7:18 p.m.
