Body is reported floating in Lake Wilson
Police and firefighters were summoned to Lake Wilson on Monday morning to help retrieve a body.
The report of a floating body was called in to police at 7:40 a.m. Monday.
A Fire Department crew from Wahiawa was later called to help retrieve the body.
No other details were immediately available.
Soldier is accused of terrorizing residents
A 29-year-old soldier was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly used his truck to terrorize residents at the Iroquois Point housing facility in Ewa Beach.
According to police, the suspect was driving recklessly in the housing area around 12:45 a.m. and severely damaged a military-owned structure. When a resident attempted to get the suspect to stop, the suspect allegedly turned his truck toward the man and attempted to run over him.
The suspect eventually crashed into a parked vehicle, then fled on foot. He was located two hours later at Mokupea Place and West Elua Way and was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, second-degree criminal property damage and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
No injuries were reported.
Brush fire consumes 30 acres in Waianae
Nearly 30 acres were destroyed Monday by a brush fire at Mailiili Road in Waianae.
Fifty firefighters contained the blaze at 3 a.m. Monday.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No structures were threatened.
The fire was reported at 11:45 p.m. Sunday near the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center. Much of the burned acreage was in inaccessible areas.
The mauka lane heading west along Farrington Highway at Mailiili Road was closed until 4 a.m. to accommodate the 12 fire companies that responded to the blaze.
Bike theft allegedly involves teen using gun
Police believe a teenage male stole a bike in Waikiki on Sunday night and then threatened its owner with a handgun.
The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. after the bike’s owner, a 29-year-old man, parked it near a convenience store in Waikiki.
When the bike’s owner came out of the store and tried to stop the theft, the teenage suspect pulled out a handgun, police said.
Tourist dies 9 days after motorcycle crash
A 63-year-old Canadian tourist who was injured last month when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a golf cart near Turtle Bay died Thursday of head injuries.
The medical examiner’s office identified the victim Sunday as Irgens Refsahl-Jensen of Edmonton, Alberta.
The cause of death was head injuries stemming from the Nov. 27 crash.
Also hospitalized was his female passenger. Neither the driver nor passenger was wearing a helmet.
Aid sought in finding Pearl City man
Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Melvin Kunimitsu, last seen Friday at his home in Pearl City.
Kunimitsu was reportedly driving a gold-colored Toyota Camry sedan that was found abandoned Saturday morning at the entrance into Wahiawa town.
Kunimitsu has a medical condition that may cause him to become confused and disoriented, according to police.
