Stand Up World Tour kicks off at Turtle Bay
A "talk story" session with four legendary watermen and a Na Kama Kai youth clinic are part of this week’s official opening of the 2014 Stand Up World Tour at Turtle Bay Resort.
Friday’s events begin with a 5 p.m. opening ceremony for the Sunset Beach Pro and Turtle Bay Women’s Pro. OluKai’s "Tribute to Legends Talk Story" portion features Archie Kalepa, Brian Keaulana, Titus Kinimaka and Mel Pu’u sharing stories and answering questions at Surfer the Bar.
The four will join Na Kama Kai founder Duane DeSoto for a youth clinic for ages 15 and younger from 9 a.m. until noon. Online registration is available at nakamakai.org. The four also will compete in a two-day surfing exhibition at Sunset Beach or Turtle Bay, with the holding period running from Saturday until Feb. 16.
The same holding period will be used for the three-day Sunset Beach Pro and the two-day Turtle Bay Women’s Pro.
On Wednesday, the "Talk Story" session will feature four of the best stand-up paddleboarders in the world — Hawaii’s Kai Lenny, Connor Baxter, Zane Schweitzer and Kody Kerbox. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at Surfer the Bar.

Barefoot League clinic at Aloha Stadium
Former Hawaii standouts Chad Owens, Colt Brennan, Leonard Peters and Eddie Klaneski headline Saturday’s Barefoot League Field of Legends Football Clinic at Aloha Stadium.
The clinic is broken into two sessions based on age. The clinic for ages 7 to 12 is from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.; ages 13 to 18 is from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Check-in is an hour prior to each session. Enter through Gate 4, south end zone.
Walk-in registration will be accepted on a space-available basis for $95.

Maui Jim Waterman’s Series continues
Matt Sack and Rachel Brontsch head into Sunday’s Maui Jim Waterman’s Series second race as the leaders of their respective divisions.
The two won last month’s series opener, which was on prone paddleboard. Sunday’s race is designated as the surfski portion of the competition with SUP and OC-1 as the other watercraft that will determine the overall top waterman and waterwoman of the Kanaka Ikaika Racing Association season.
Sunday’s 10.5-mile event begins at 10 a.m. at Maunalua Bay and finishes at Magic Island. Race-day registration and check-in starts 7 a.m.

Rugby season opens with Imua Cup
The Hawaii Harlequins Rugby Football Club opens defense of its state title Saturday in Rugby Hawaii Union’s season-opening Imua Cup at Kapiolani Park.
The round-robin tournament, which involves all five union teams, starts at noon.

Lawn bowling championship next week
The Honolulu Lawn Bowls Club is hosting the inaugural Aloha Barefoot Bowls, being touted as the sport’s unofficial world championship tournament, Wednesday through Feb. 14 at the HLBC green at Ala Moana Park.
Twenty teams from Hawaii, the mainland, Canada and Australia are scheduled to compete beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Play runs daily from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Participants will be encouraged to wear colorful shirts and compete barefoot.

Roller derby opener coming up
The South Shore Sirens take on the Tropic Thunder in Pacific Roller Derby’s season opener Feb. 15, at the U.S. Coast Guard Hideaway Club at Kalaeloa.
The hourlong bout starts at 4 p.m. on the newly refinished flat track. Non-military spectators are required to RSVP by midnight Feb. 14 in order to drive onto the air station.
Admission is $10 and includes one soda or beer. There is no charge for children 12 and younger.
Doors open at 3 p.m.
