Former Hawaii All-American Emily Hartong has signed to play for Volero Zurich, the reigning Swiss pro volleyball league champion.
Hartong will wear No. 17, the same number she wore for four seasons with the Rainbow Wahine. She was a two-time All-American, two-time Big West player of the year and the Jack Bonham Award winner this past school year as UH’s top female senior student-athlete.
U.S. men sweep Serbia in volleyball
The U.S. men’s national volleyball team, with two players from Hawaii in the starting lineup, swept Serbia on Friday in Chicago to remain undefeated in FIVB World League play.
It is the best start in World League for the U.S. (5-0) since 2000. Serbia dropped to 4-1.
Setter Micah Christenson (Kamehameha, USC) had two kills, a block and two aces. Erik Shoji (Punahou, Stanford), who leads the group in serve-receive efficiency, played the entire match at libero. Kawika Shoji (‘Iolani, Stanford) was used in the first two sets as a serving specialist.
The teams meet again Saturday at the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion.
